By the time I was 29, working in the fashion industry for over 10 years, I realized that working as employee in the corporate world wasn’t for me anymore. I spend too much time doing something that did not make me happy. I felt neither appreciated nor respected. I wasn’t doing anything really life-changing where I could feel proud of myself at the end of the day. I felt like I had to spend my time on something more important, long lasting and satisfying; something I would be really passionate about and could really get behind. It was years after that I realized I wanted to help support people in a different way: solve real problems that matter for someone, “serve” others in a way that they feel empowered, help others to grow in a humble and respectful way, encourage others to take responsibility for themselves and their bodies.
The idea that the body has self-healing powers and that I can support that inner power with my hands and without medicine was a crazy thought at first but very soon I experienced the body’s healing powers on my own body. The idea that all body parts and systems are interrelated and dependent on each other helped me not just to understand my own body, but also to understand movement and how lifestyle, trauma and habits affect us on all levels.
My curiosity, flexible thinking and willingness to change and create motivates me! The Monday morning syndrome just does not exist for me. Monday is the start of another fascinating week in which I get to explore the dimensions of osteopathy, ayurveda and yoga. Every day in practice is an opportunity to learn more and to enjoy more of what life has to offer. I find great joy in doing what I love.
Through a holistic health approach I treat you with respect and do my best to attend your personal needs and comforts. Every person has different history, lifestyle and needs. During my journey I learned to be thankful for the opportunity to help people with their pains and discomforts. You are not just a number to me. I do care about people around me, my patients and clients. Each person is unique and needs to be treated individually. I believe the first step is earning trust is self-awareness, patience and empathy.
Treatment is based on two-way communication between practitioner and patient. Careful listening, compassion and understanding lead to questions to get to know you better. I inform about options, alternatives and what would be most suitable for the individual. I listen respectfully to what the person has to say and together we consider what I have to offer in accordance with that.
I promote health rather than treat illness and I do believe that preventative and sustainable health care is very important and a more effective way to be healthy. I do not cure any disease. I do recognize my strengths and weaknesses and the fact that what I offer might not be the best for everyone. You will get my honest opinion on really anything if you ask me and if I don’t know I will find out or consult with a colleague.
I do treat people with the best knowledge available to me at that time with regard of scientific research. Some treatment modalities are more subtle and more difficult to understand. That does not mean that they do not work and nor create change in the body. During my various educational trainings I refined my skills and developed my “feeling” hands. My hands are my main tool of treatment; with gentle touch they feel, gather information, communicate, detect restrictions and heal.
I know my values and my beliefs and make decisions based upon what correlates with my intuition and my experience. I do not see myself as “teacher” or someone “superior. Rather I believe that we can learn from each other and our different bodies, experiences and perspectives.
Making mistakes are opportunities to grow as a person and important experiences to make during life in order to improve and grow. I try to learn from my mistakes to improve my knowledge, skill-set and to create a positive change; not just in my personal and professional life but in the life’s of my patients, clients and yoga students.
